There are a number of ways to share the mission of L'Arche Edmonton: Become a VolunteerVolunteers provide companionship or a service to people with disabilities. Volunteers are important because they spend time in the home doing things that Assistants may not get around to. We have wonderful volunteers who help clean up yards, do mending, and help with reading and writing letters. Call our office (465-0618) to volunteer your companionship or special skills. Become an Assistant or Staff Member"Assistant" is the term given to the people that choose to share their lives with others by living in a L'Arche home. the day-in-day-out work in the homes relies on the commitment of its Assistants. No previous experience is necessary, but those interested in being an Assistant should have an openness to life in the community and relationships with people with disabilities. They should also have a willingness to learn about Canada and other cultures. The activities of an Assistant vary greatly, but typical activities might include: sharing in the household chores; accompanying those with disabilities to the doctor, dentist, or to another activities; helping those with physical disabilities get dressed, bathe and eat; and participating in and organizing community activities.
